Wax removal

Although you may think spilt wax on your carpet, clothes or furniture means they’re ruined for good, there are a few methods that can help to remove stubborn wax!
Removing wax from clothing
Here’s a few tips that may help to remove wax from your clothing…
- If you happen to spill wax on something your wearing…take it off as soon as possible – wax removal is much easier when the garment isn’t being worn.
- As soon as you can get it popped into a plastic bag and into the freezer.
- After about ten-minutes or so, the freezing temperatures should have completely frozen and solidified that wax.
- Lay it on a flat surface and use a blunt knife to scrape the wax off (you may be able to get it all in one).
- If you’ve not managed to get it all off you can try this next step…place a piece of kitchen roll onto your ironing board. Lay your garment, wax side up, onto the board, then place a piece of kitchen roll over the stain. Set your iron on a medium heat, and iron over. Move your paper each time wax is transferred onto it, replacing the sheet periodically.
- When the wax is removed, treat with a stain remover and wash as normal.
Removing wax from wood
This can be a tricky one…but the hints and tips below may help…
How to remove candle wax from wood
- Allow the spilt wax to cool and solidify completely.
- Place an ice pack or bag filled with ice over the wax for 10 minutes to harden it further.
- Use a credit card or place ruler to chip away at the wax until you’ve removed it.
- Finish up by polishing the table (this will help loosen any remaining wax and leave your wood looking as good as new).
Removing wax from a carpet
Another tricky one…traditional cleaning methods won’t work and water and wax don’t mix very well!
- Remove everyone from the area! If people walk over the candle wax, it may crumble and be trodden into the carpet, making it much harder to remove.
- Let the wax cool and solidify completely.
- Then you need to place a sheet of kitchen paper over the stain. Plug your iron in, and use a medium heat to iron over the wax. Be sure to change the paper regularly to ensure you are transferring wax onto the paper, and not back onto the carpet.
- Once the wax has been removed – vacuum over the area to remove any remaining pieces of wax.
