A dirty toilet, bad smells and a messy kitchen are top of the list of the biggest turn-offs in the home.

 

Research even shows that men are just as house proud as women. When questioned, both sexes said they would be doing a big spring clean this year and many were planning to spend over a day deep cleaning.

 

Cleaning the home isn’t just for the hygiene conscious. About 29% of men and 30% of women say the biggest motivations to keep their homes spick and span is because they are incredibly house proud.

Channel 4’s ‘Queen of Clean’, Lynsey Crombie, says: ‘People do judge you on your homes so it’s great to see that many of us are planning a spring clean. I like that people do it because they are house proud – that’s something I can relate to and will be spending the time to make sure my home is spick and span for guests and my family to enjoy.’

 

If you’re expecting guests in the coming weeks why not try some of these simple tips to create a welcoming home you can feel proud of:

  1. Place flowers around the home: this will keep it looking pretty and smelling nice
  2. Make sure to replace your hand towels in the bathroom with clean ones
  3. Use odour removing sprays or light a candle to get rid of the unpleasant smells you don’t even notice anymore
  4.  Clear the kitchen table of clutter
  5. If guests are staying the night, ensure the sheets are fresh and clean
